Your books are your business.

Books O' Plenty doesn't collect any data about you. No account, no analytics, no tracking, no ads. Here's exactly what goes where.

Your library

Your books and everything about them (details, covers, reading status, ratings, collections and loans) are kept in the library file you save on your Mac. The app never uploads it anywhere. If you save your library in a folder that syncs, such as iCloud Drive, that service stores a copy, as it would with any file.

Spotlight and Shortcuts work on your Mac only. Settings are kept in the app's preferences on your Mac; API keys and tokens for the online sources are kept in your login Keychain.

Looking up book details and covers

When you ask the app to fetch details, find a cover, add a book by ISBN or by title, or look up the books in a series, it sends what's needed for that search (such as a title, an author or an ISBN) to the sources you've switched on:

Like any website you visit, these services see your IP address, and their own privacy policies apply. The app doesn't send anything else about you or your library, and doesn't do any of this in the background. You can switch each source on or off in Settings.

Links to other websites

A book's identifiers can open its page on sites such as Goodreads, The StoryGraph, Amazon or Kobo. That only happens when you click a link, it opens in your browser, and that site's privacy policy applies.

Updates

To find out whether there's a new version, the app downloads a small list of releases from this website: automatically if you allowed that, or when you choose “Check for Updates…”. It doesn't send information about your Mac along with it. The website's host sees your IP address, as with any visit.

Loan reminders

If you track books you've borrowed from a library, the app can remind you before they're due: with a notification on your Mac, or, if you choose, with a reminder in Apple's Reminders app. Either way the app asks macOS for permission first. A reminder in the Reminders app holds the book's title and due date, and syncs like your other reminders.

This website

This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking, and it loads nothing from other servers. It's hosted on GitLab Pages; like any web host, GitLab may keep technical logs of visits, such as IP addresses, under its own privacy policy.
